National Career Development Week

National Career Development Week is an initiative of the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA). It is an annual nation-wide celebration that encourages Australians to take active ownership over their careers and the lives they love. This year it falls from May 14 to 20, 2012, and coincides with National Volunteer Week - a celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in Australia.

To celebrate, representatives from both Volunteering Queensland (VQ) and QUT Careers and Employment will be on campus to speak to students about how volunteer work can increase your employability and make you more attractive to employers.

Representatives from VQ will be available to chat to students about what VQ does, what kind of volunteering experiences are available, and can answer any questions you have about how to get involved. They can also let you know about their International Student Volunteer Initiative, which they are implementing to increase opportunities for international students to volunteer across Queensland.

QUT Career Counselors will also be on hand to answer any questions about how to apply for volunteer positions, other organisations you could consider volunteering for, and how you can use this experience to better market yourself to employers. If you're already participating in volunteer work (or have previously), we can also teach you how to best present this on your resume, to highlight the skills you've learnt and show how this experience is relevant to the jobs you are searching for.

No question is too big or too small - come along and talk to us about the benefits of volunteering!
