[Print-friendly version]

The QUT Career Mentor Scheme is an initiative of the alumni board which facilitates a relationship between a student and an industry professional, providing the opportunity for professionals to offer guidance and encouragement to students in their chosen field of expertise. Since its inception in 1992 the scheme has exponentially grown in size and stature, and currently services over 600 students across 30 disciplines.

Being the “University for the real-world”, the career mentor scheme acts as a transitional link for QUT students by helping them to make the transition from study and integrate them into the Australian or International workforce. Evaluations have consistently indicated the great benefit derived by both mentors and students, particularly in enhancing the student’s career development.

Once you become part of the mentor scheme, you will be matched with an industry professional who will become your mentor for a year of your course (typically from March until December) for the full program, or for the second semester (July until December) for the mid-year entry. The Career Mentor Scheme is voluntary, and participating in the scheme is not a requirement of your course.

The mentoring relationship is driven by you, the student, and as a student you could expect to seek advice, support, encouragement, and an industry perspective from your mentor. No promise of employment is made or sought in a mentoring relationship.
