The short listing phase involves the employer reviewing all applications to determine who will be successful in progressing to the next phase of the selection process.

A typical advertised position may attract anything between 50 to 300 applications. Employers’ are very busy people and consequently large numbers of applicants’ mean limited time is spent reviewing each application. It is not uncommon for an employer to spend 15 to 30 seconds reviewing one application.

Regardless of the field, employers’ are typically seeking very similar attributes from potential candidates. You can improve the chances of your application being short listed by adopting the following strategies:
