Organisations' typically list this information on their websites. Alternatively, ask them to send you out some information brochures. |
| Dress selection |
Try to make a decision at least 2 days prior to the interview on your clothes, shoes, stockings, dress length, tie, colours, jewellery, and perfume. Look at company websites to determine the type of image the organisation portrays. This will help to ensure that your appearance is consistent with the company's image and will reduce your chances of appearing uncertain and hesitant at the interview. |
| Developing an entry routine |
"First impressions are lasting ones" definitely applies to interviews. Practicing some entry routines can help you to appear confident and in control during the initial introductions. Consider different types of entry routines and practice introducing yourself with a friend or family member. |
| Anxiety control |
Deep breathing and squeezing some object (the side of the chair for example) are two strategies that can be used during the interview process to slow down your heart rate, get good oxygen flow to your brain and release the build up of nervous energy in your body. |
| Values exercise |
Have clear in your own mind your strongest values, strengths and weaknesses as a person well before the interview. Expect employers' to ask direct or indirect questions to obtain information about these areas. |
| Questions to answer |
Practice answering various types of questions that may be asked by the interviewer. Ask a friend or family member help you practice answering questions on the spot. |
| Questions to ask |
It is common to be given the opportunity to ask questions toward the end of the interview. To indicate your interest and knowledge in the position or organisation, it is highly recommended that you prepare some questions to ask. |
