| While you may have your sights set on a lectureship or some academic tenure, you should continually keep your options open as to other potential pathways. As a researcher in an academic setting it is likely that you will have to undertake a series of often short term contracts and to continue to develop and updating our technical skills. You will need to consider all the other skills that will allow you to survive the uncertainty and allow you to continue within academia or outside of it. It is worthwhile having a back up strategy by considering the skills and abilities that you have that will allow you to survive outside of academia if necessary. |
