Developing an understanding of yourself is a critical component of the career planning process, which is why self assessment is often the first step that is taken. Whatever career plans you are making, it is important to do some assessment of your own career strengths in order to make an informed career decision.

Understanding yourself is not a one-off activity that you do when you're trying to make a career decision you will constantly gain further self understanding as you work through the other components of the career planning model. Some of the information that you gather about yourself may stay constand throughout your life, but much of this information will change as you are exposed to new life and work experiences, and engage with the world in different ways. Therefore, understanding yourself is an ongoing process that you will engage in throughout your life.

Enjoy learning about yourself and furthering your understanding of your career journey up until now, and how this can help you to navigate your future career journey. The process may confirm the career ideas you have and the choices you have made so far, and/or it may open up further options worth exploring.
