This section addresses possible options available to school leavers regarding eligibility for tertiary study at QUT.

What is selection based on?

Overall Position (OP)

Queensland school leavers are made offers for tertiary courses on the basis of their OP. OP scores are based on a scale from 1 (highest) to 25 (lowest), and consideration is given first to OP 1 students.

QTAC Selection Ranks

Students who have completed Year 12 and who are not eligible for an OP are also considered for courses at QUT and most other institutions. OP Ineligible students are allocated a QTAC selection rank. Selection ranks are based on a scale from 99 (highest) to 1 (lowest) and offers are made with consideration given first to students with a 99 rank.

What are my options?

If you think that it is unlikely that you will be offered your preferred tertiary course due to your senior study results, there are a number of options that you should consider other than repeating your senior year:

Studying another degree course at QUT
Enrolling as a QUT visiting student
Studying a dual TAFE/QUT award
Studying a degree course at another university or accredited provider
Completing a diploma and/or advanced diploma studies through TAFE or other accredited providers.

By enrolling in different tertiary course that you are eligible for, you can use your first year results to upgrade to a more preferred course. This is referred to as "upgrading". Check out QUT's information on Upgrading Pathways to University.
