This section is aimed to assist parents and partners of individuals who are choosing and applying for tertiary courses.

How to apply?

Individuals wishing to apply for a course at QUT and most other tertiary institutions should be aware that they need to apply via the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). Intake into tertiary courses is undertaken two times during the year, for cut off dates and courses offered you will need to access the QTAC website.

How to order their preferences?

The QTAC application process allows individuals to list up 6 course preferences. Before they can start planning the order of their preferences they will need to obtain information about course cut-off's through QTAC.

The following guidelines are designed to help individuals order course preferences successfully:

1st & 2nd

Ideal Courses

These are the courses that they really want to study, even though their chances of being offered a place may not be high.

3rd & 4th

Realistic Courses

These are the courses that they can realistically be offered a place in. These courses should provide them with an alternative path to reach their career goal or a second career choice. They can also be used to upgrade to their 'ideal course.

5th & 6th

'Foot In The Door' Courses

These are the courses that they are willing to do if they miss out on their other preferences. These should be courses that are easy to get into and can be used to upgrade.

Remember there is no pressure - there will be opportunities to change preferences
