This section is aimed to assist recent school leavers with choosing and applying for their preferred courses.
How do I apply
School leavers wishing to apply for a course at QUT and most other tertiary institutions should be aware that they need to apply via the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). Intake into tertiary courses is undertaken two times during the year, for cut off dates and courses offered you will need to access the qtac website.
Ordering my preferences
The QTAC application process allows you to list up 6 course preferences. Before you can start planning the order of your preferences you will need to obtain information about course cut-off's through QTAC.
The following guidelines are designed to help you order you course preferences successfully:
1st & 2nd |
Ideal Courses |
These are the courses that you really want to study, even though your chances of being offered a place may not be high. |
3rd & 4th |
Realistic Courses |
These are the courses that you can realistically be offered a place in. These courses should provide you with an alternative path to reach your career goal or a second career choice. They can also be used to upgrade to your 'ideal course'. |
5th & 6th |
'Foot In The Door' Courses |
These are the courses that you are willing to do if you miss out on your other preferences. These should be courses that are easy to get into and can be used to upgrade. |
Remember there is no pressure - there will be opportunities to change your preferences!
